Could you spare some time to help with our work? You don’t need to be an expert and it doesn’t have to be a big commitment.

surveys and projects

If you would like to take an active part in essential conservation work, one of the most valuable ways is to take part in one of our wildlife surveys. With the help of volunteers nationwide, these surveys provide valuable information about the state of our wildlife. Regular monitoring alerts us early to population changes and enables us to act quickly when we need to.

After analysing the long term trends from our Mammals on Roads survey data, we discovered a potentially serious decline in the hedgehog population. Noticing this trend before the situation became critical has allowed us to respond by setting up the nationwide Hedgehog Street focusing on hedgehogs and an urgent accompanying research programme looking into the possible causes of a hedgehog decline.

We need your help! The more eyes we have looking out for wildlife, the more likely we are to detect any problems and put timely, effective conservation plans into action. For further information and to take part, contact us or visit our surveys and projects pages.
