Bale monkeys are only found in the highlands of Ethiopia and detailed studies of this threatened primate have only just begun. Once thought to only live in bamboo forests, groups have recently been found in forests where bamboo has been eradicated by humans, but their long term survival is uncertain.

Up close and personal studies are needed to find out more about Bale monkey behaviour such as eating habits, everyday activities and home ranges in different forest types in order to fully understand how to protect them from increasing dangers in the world around them. Findings will be used to advise local communities in conflict with the monkeys as well as raise awareness with local government and political leaders.
