orchards
Traditional orchards have recently been added to the list of Priority Habitats under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP). With existing data relating to the extent and distribution of traditional orchards being outdated, the UK Habitat Action Group has recognised that producing an inventory of traditional orchards is a very high priority.
Our Traditional Orchard Survey, part-funded by Natural England, Countryside Council for Wales, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, aims to locate and map the remaining traditional orchards in order to maintain and preserve this unique and special habitat. Click here to read more about the project and the importance of orchards and wildlife. In addition, we are encouraging more traditional methods of orchard management and raising the profile of locally grown fruits. If you are an orchard owner please click here to find out how to get involved. The survey relies on a dedicated team of volunteers, so please click here if you think you might be able to help us.
