great stag hunt

To ensure the survival of stag beetles in Britain it is important to know where they are found, whilst trying to maintain and increase their range.

In 1998 we launched the hugely successful Great Stag Hunt and received reports of stag beetles from thousands of volunteers across England.

We followed this up with Great Stag Hunt II in 2002 to check that their numbers hadn’t reduced further. In total more than 8,000 people reported over 14,000 stag beetle sightings. You can read the full report of the survey here.

The Great Stag Hunt III was run over 2006 and 2007. The results will soon be available and an updated map and report available.

To record 2010 sightings of stag beetles please visit the great stag hunt website which also contains a fantastic gallery of images sent in by our great stag hunters!
