key species and habitats
In addition to funding conservation research, at People’s Trust for Endangered Species we also coordinate much of our own work on several key species.
We are the lead partner for three Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) species: stag beetle, noble chafer beetle and violet click beetle. This means that, along with a partnership of other charities and organisations, we are responsible for carrying out a range of activities aimed at improving their conservation status.
The hazel dormouse is an important focus for our work. We are responsible for a number of elements of the dormouse BAP, including the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme, the Dormouse Reintroduction Programme and Woodland Management Training. We also collate the National Dormouse Database.
People’s Trust for Endangered Species is also involved in the conservation of habitats as well as individual species. In partnership with other organisations we are currently running the Traditional Orchard Survey in England and Wales and completed the Hedgerows for Dormice Project in 2011.
