what is an endangered species?

The term ‘endangered species’ is generally used to refer to populations that are under threat of extinction.

The World Conservation Union (the IUCN) has been assessing the conservation status of species worldwide and produces a ‘red list’ of threatened species classifying all known living organisms at risk of global extinction.

At People’s Trust for Endangered Species we support projects worldwide that address the needs of these species.

There are nine IUCN Red List classifications each with its own definition.
