hazel dormouse training

The aim of these training pages is to provide some guidance for trainers running Dormouse Ecology and Conservation courses and for a reminder for trainees who are working towards their dormouse licence. There is also information for existing licence holders and a comprehensive section on appropriate habitat management for dormice.

For trainers it will try and ensure there is some standardisation of content on dormouse courses. It will enable current material and handouts to be made available and slides for inclusion in presentations.

For trainees the aim is to provide a reminder of what was learnt on their course, provide the material to contribute to the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme (NDMP) and to give examples of good practice and handling techniques.

Click on the links below, or in the left hand menu under training, to view the relevant section:

The information on these pages is not intended to replace a good training course. These give the trainee both the benefit of the trainers experience in the field and often their first sighting of a dormouse. It is strongly advised that anyone wishing to work towards their licence attends such a course.
